Faculty of Education organized a 5-day Faculty Development Program from 8th May to 12th May 2023 on INNOVATIVE TRENDS IN PEDAGOGY: EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING IN HIGHER
EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS


Day 1: 8th May 2023
Inaugural Program:
Dr. Neha Sharma, Asst.Prof Faculty of Education started the inaugural program and introduced the participants to the topic. She welcomed the guest and other participants present in the program. With the lighting of
the lamp, the program started. The Guest of Honor of the program Prof. (Dr.) Atul Nasa, PVC, SGT University was
welcomed by Prof. (Dr.) Madhavi Sharma. Prof. (Dr.) Atul Nasa, PVC, SGT University delivered the inaugural speech, in his speech Sir highlighted the significance of the incorporation of experiential learning in the
pedagogical framework and wished the program a grand success. The inaugural program concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms.Poonam Talwar, Asst.Prof. Faculty of Education.

Technical Session:

The technical session was coordinated by Mr. Abhra
Mukhopadhyay, Asst. Prof. Faculty of Education. The
technical session started with distributing the
questionnaire to study the existing knowledge related to
the topic.

Session 1:
The first session of the day started with the
expert deliberation of Prof.(Dr.) Saroj Pandey,
Former Director and Professor School of
Education Indira Gandhi National Open
University, New Delhi.
Prof.(Dr.) Saroj Pandey delivered her lecture on

“Experiential Learning as a
Transformative Pedagogy” Madam
emphasized constructivism as a
background philosophy of experiential
learning and highlighted the features and
goals of experiential learning.

Session 2:
The second session was conducted virtually over google meet by the renowned
academician from the Ed-tech platform,
Mr. Alakh Pandey, most commonly known
as Physics Walla. He gave his expert
thoughts on “Experiential Learning and
Experimental Learning – The
Differential Perspective”. He explained
his own careeristic development in the
discipline of Physics and narrated the
procedure of physics coaching.

Session 3:
The third session was conducted by
Professor. (Dr.) GAURAV SINGH,
Professor, School of Education, Central
University of Haryana. Virtually, he
apprised the participants with a colorful and
technical presentation related to his topic
“Experiential Learning – Implications for
Educators”, with various models of
experiential learning, that can be skillfully
applied by educators in the regular
classroom.

Session 4:
The fourth session of the day after lunch was conducted by Prof.(Dr.) Amitav Mishra,
Professor, School of Education at Indira Gandhi National Open University
(IGNOU). He presented his lecture on “Collaborative Learning”, he formed small
groups among the participants and demonstrated the theme of the topic by adopting
the Think Pair Share technique.

 

Day 2: 9th May 2023: Program Coordinated by Dr. Ruby, Asst.Prof. Faculty of
Education.
Session 1:
The first session was conducted by Prof.
(Dr.) Fauzia Khan, from the Institute of
Advanced Studies, Jamia Milia Islamia
University. She gave her expert
deliberations on “Experiential Learning
and academic leadership” She explained
the importance of learning by doing, and
she said we must relate real life with study
for better results. She also tells us why we
need lesson plans. She mainly discussed
Kolb’s experimental learning cycle which includes concrete experiences, reflective
observation, abstract conceptualization, and active experimentation.
Session 2:
The second session was conducted by Dr. Rajbir Singh, Dean of FBSC, SGT
University. He gave his expert thoughts on “Reflective observation”. The speaker
supported his lecture by narrating his own life experiences during the time of research
when he was engaged in various kinds of activities including direct and indirect
observation.
Session 3:
The third session was conducted by Dr.Kanak Sharma, Asst. Prof. Central
University of Rajasthan, Jaipur in an online mode. She delivered her expert thoughts
on “Inquiry-based learning and its impact on the education system”.
Session 4:
The fourth session was conducted by Dr.
Kunal, Associate Dean, Faculty of Allied
Health Sciences, SGT University, who gave
his expert deliberation on “Undergraduate
Research” and discussed the concept of
undergraduate research, the types of
undergraduate research, and what are the opportunities involved in undergraduate research. He cited several websites like
indiafellow.org and the prime minister’s research fellowship, Azim Premji Foundation
Fellowship, the Udayan Shalini Fellowship program, etc.

Session 5:
The fifth session of the day was
conducted by Dr. Vikas Sharma,
Associate Professor & Head of the
Department of Clinical Psychology,
FBSC, SGT University, Sir gave his
expert deliberation on “Experiential
Learning and Clinical Education”. He
emphasized the clinical aspects of
learning, its cyclical process, and its progression.
Day 3: 10th May 2023
Session 1:
The first session of the day was conducted
by Prof. Dr. Amit Ahuja, Associate
Professor, GGSIPU, he gave his expert
deliberation on “Multidisciplinary
Approaches in Experiential Learning”
Speaker emphasized the use of
behaviouralism and constructivism as a
background philosophy of experimental
learning as well a converged the meaning
of experiential learning with highly innovative instances.
Session 2:
The second session of the day was
conducted by Prof. Promila Batra, MDU,
Rohtak, she gave her expert deliberation on
the “Role of Experiential Learning in
Personal Growth” while providing a new outlook on the meaning of experiential learning.
Session 3:
The third session of the day was conducted by
Dr. Monica Nagpal, CIET, Delhi, she delivered her
expert thoughts on “Simulations and role-playing
in experiential learning” through an innovative
and fascinating online activity to inquest prior
knowledge about the topic.

Session 4:
The fourth session of the day was conducted by Dr. Urmila Sharma, Faculty of Law,
SGTU, she took the session on “Volunteering as a Learning Experience in
Experiential Learning” She explained the implication of volunteering as a strategy for
experiential learning.
Session 5:
The fifth session of the day was conducted by Prof. Tara Shankar, Associate Dean,
FCAM, SGTU, he gave his expert thought on “Internship as a Professional
Experience” through his deliberation he connected theoretical knowledge with practical
situation by bridging the gap between theory and practice.
Day 4: 11th May 2023: The program was coordinated by Ms. Poonam Talwar, and
felicitated by the Dean Faculty of Education.
Session 1:
The first session was conducted by Prof.(Dr.) Rajesh Kumar Sinha, Dean Academics
SGT University on “Fellowship and
Experiential Learning” Through his
deliberation, he emphasized on fellowship
program and its details. He talked about
personal and professional growth through
the fellowship program and apprised the
participants of the background philosophy
of experiential learning and how it occurs
through our daily life interactions.

Session 2:
The second session of the day was
coordinated by Ms. Ponam Talwar, Asst.
Prof. Faculty of Education, The resource
person of the session was Prof. (Dr.)
Yukti Sharma, Joint Director, Institute for
Lifelong Learning and Professor,
Department of Education, University of
Delhi. She gave her expert thought on
Practicuum as an Essential Component
of Experiential Learning. Emphasized
experiences of daily life interaction involving personal and professional, both have an
inculcating effect on learning experiences. She stressed the philosophical background of
experiential learning relating to John Dewey’s educational philosophy, Jean Piaget’s
theory of cognitive development, etc.

Session 3:
The third session of the day was in online mode given by Dr. Prerna Mandhhyan from
Katihar, Bihar. She talked about the importance of teamwork in experiential learning
i.e., the deeper form of learning. She stressed collaboration in teamwork for better
experiential learning by citing the example of fieldwork and its various types. She well
explained the steps of scientific fieldwork and linked each step with the components of
experiential learning.
Session 4:
The fourth session of the day was conducted by Prof. (Dr.) A.S. Suresh, Dean Faculty of
Commerce and Management, SGT University, gave his expert thoughts on “Experiential &
Case-Based Learning”. The speaker further discussed the different forms of case studies with
the purpose of doing a case study. The case study also helps to build KASH (Knowledge,
Attitude, Skills, Habits), and he nicely explained this phenomenon.
Session 5:
The fifth session was conducted by Prof.(Dr.) Rajneesh Wadhwa, Dean, Director, External
Affairs, Sir gave his expert deliberation on “Study Abroad and Service Learning” and
Narrated the topic relating to his life experiences. The speaker distinguished the difference between study abroad and service learning are two
forms of experiential learning that offer students unique opportunities to broaden their
horizons and gain practical knowledge and skills.
Day 5: 12th May 2023: The program was coordinated by Dr. Manita Devi,
Asst.Prof.Faculty of Education, SGT University. Dr. Manita Devi welcomed the speakers
of the day, a student from the Faculty of Education, and introduced all the speakers.
Session 1:
Topic: Gamification – A Pedagogy
Tool, speaker for the session was Mr.
Sachin Mudgil, Director, SM
Excellency Academy. New Delhi
He is M.Tech in Electronics and
Communication Engineering from
Maharishi Dayanand University
Rohtak. He gave a good example of
gamified learning experience while teaching science and maths, through the
example of chess he explained how maths can be taught.
Session 2:
Topic: Integration of Technology
into classroom teaching –
Implications for Self-efficacy, speaker
for this session was Prof.(Dr.) Suresh
Joshi, Director, Digital Learning,
Faculty of Behavioural Sciences, SGT
University. He explained how the
technology can be integrated into the
pedagogy, and cited some examples
like the use of padlet in integrating
technology. He concluded the session
by acknowledging the participants’
informed with Technology Pedagogy
and Content Knowledge.

Session 3:
Topic: Alternate Pedagogies – Fitting of Learner and Pedagogy, speaker for
this session was Dr. Abha Sharma from SCERT, (GNCT), New Delhi, she
explained how the storytelling method enhances the creativity among the students
and its relation with experiential learning

Session 4:
Topic: Project-Based Learning – A
paradigm shift in learning experiences,
speaker for this session was Dr.
Gunjan Sharma, Ambedkar
University, New Delhi. She explained
the background of project-based
learning citing with examples and
concluded the session with various
hands-on training experiences.
Valedictory Session:
Prof.(Dr.) Satish Chander Sharma,
Director IQAC, SGT University, was
the chief guest in the valedictory
session. He apprised the participants,
of the significance of the topic of
experiential learning in the
teaching-learning process. Appreciated
the faculty of education for selecting
the topic of experiential learning as the
need of date in the field of education, he further appreciated the resource persons
being invited to speak on various topics.
