Guest Lecture on “The Art of News Editing by Faculty of Mass Communication and Media Technology

The Faculty of Mass Communication and Media Technology of SGT University organized a Guest Lecture on “The Art of News Editing.

Mr. Gulshan Kumar, Senior News Editor, Central Desk Dainik Jagran Noida was the Keynote speaker.

Mr. Kumar said a journalist is a versatile architect who should have a varied knowledge of different problems faced by society and should know how to convey their problems to a target audience. He said a journalist should write a clean and crisp copy of news following the basic journalistic rule 5W1H. He further said that reporters must develop the habit of reading as general knowledge and awareness of the events happening in the surroundings will add value to their report.

Mr. Kumar said that to write a news story it is important to know about the real facts and figures and said that it is also important for a journalist to read his own copy and must find a scope of reconstructing it. While writing a copy of news a journalist should be unbiased. News should be written from an objective point of view presenting the actual information to the readers. Mr. Kumar asked the students to spare at least some time from their busy schedules and start writing on various topics of their interest which will help them to improve their vocabulary and refine their writing skills. Students asked their questions and Mr. Kumar answered their queries patiently.

Professor Sushil Manav Dean, Faculty of Mass Communication and Media Technology said to write a story is also an art. For a perfect story, writing should be clear and to the point. Mr. S.K Pandey Associate Professor proposed votes of thanks to Mr. Gulshan Kumar.

Mr. Kranti Anand, Mr. Asif Husain, Mr. Biswambhar Bose, Dr Tejee Isha, Mr. Saleem Javed, Mr. Tushar Gulia, Mr. Madhav Sharma and Abhishek Dubey were also present in the guest lecture.
