Prof. Rakesh Sharma joins SGTU as Pro-chancellor

Renowned scientist, administrator, academician and educationist Prof. Rakesh Kumar Sharma has joined SGT University as its Pro-Chancellor.
Prof. Sharma had a meeting with Vice-Chancellor OP Kalra, Pro-Vice Chancellors Dr. Vinod Kumar and Dr. Vikas Dhawan, Deans of different faculties, members of the administrative department, Dean Research, Dean Student Welfare, Controller of Examinations, Head of Centre for Cosmology and Science Popularization (CCSP), and Head of Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) on Tuesday.
Prof. Rakesh Kumar Sharma has an experience of about 40 years. He has been a senior scientist, administrator, academician, and educationist during his tenure. He has done Pharmacy from Panjab University, Chandigarh, and Ph.D in Chemistry from Delhi University. He has worked as a scientist in the Defence Research and Development Organization for more than 35 years. Prior to joining SGT University, Prof. Sharma was working as Vice-Chancellor of Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences, Chennai.
Talking about his appointment as the new Pro-Chancellor and listing his priorities, Prof. Sharma said that with 18 faculties, the SGT University houses a deep reservoir of excellence in multidisciplinary, academics, clinics, research and innovations.
“As Educationists, we not only have to teach we have to inspire students to learn, we have to ignite the light of imagination, shine the sense of perception and define the path of life. We are passing through a changing environment in education we have already moved from a teacher-centric delivery system where we were concentrating on the creation of knowledge preservation of knowledge and dissemination of knowledge now we are actually transformed, as we are now innovating, we integrating we are educating or in another word we are into teaching, educating and innovating,” said Sharma.
“We are focusing on outcome-based students’ centric education. Higher education is becoming more and more personalized, accessible, technology-enabled, creative, innovative, and socially relevant. We have to nutshell a true community of learners at SGT University. We should continuously improve all the aspects of the activity in which we operate to create a better tomorrow than today.
Prof. Sharma said that he would personally visit every faculty of SGT University to get information about the functioning and if any improvement is required, he will work towards it immediately.
