Farewell to a Legend: ACP Pradyuman’s Journey in CID Comes to a Dramatic End
The legendary journey of ACP Pradyuman, one of Indian television’s most iconic characters, is reportedly coming to an emotional end. Portrayed by veteran actor Shivaji Satam, ACP Pradyuman has been the face of the immensely popular crime thriller CID, captivating audiences for over two decades. According to a report published by India Today on April 3, the makers of the revived CID 2 have decided to conclude their character’s arc with a shocking twist — ACP Pradyuman will die in an upcoming episode due to a bomb attack.
The news comes as a shock to fans who grew up watching CID and have long admired the no-nonsense yet emotionally grounded character of ACP Pradyuman. As per sources close to the production, a new antagonist, Barbosa (played by Tigmanshu Dhulia), will plant a deadly bomb targeting the CID unit. While the rest of the team will survive the attack, ACP Pradyuman will sacrifice his life in the line of duty — a true hero’s farewell.
The episode, already shot, is expected to air soon, but the makers have deliberately kept most of the details under wraps to maximize the emotional impact. “It’s meant to be a major shock for the audience,” said a source.
CID had originally aired on Sony TV from 1998 to 2018, ending its remarkable 20-year run. The characters of ACP Pradyuman, Inspector Daya (Dayanand Shetty), and Inspector Abhijeet (Aditya Srivastava) became household names and beloved figures across generations. The show made a much-awaited comeback on December 21, 2024, with CID 2, which continues to air on Sony TV and is now available on Netflix.
In a recent interview, Shivaji Satam expressed the emotional rollercoaster of returning to his role after six years. “It feels surreal to return as ACP Pradyuman, a character that has received so much love,” he said. However, the storyline in CID 2 turned darker, with rifts between Daya and Abhijeet and a shaken CID unit.
Shivaji Satam’s portrayal of ACP Pradyuman inspired millions with his catchphrases like “Daya, darwaza tod do!” and his steadfast commitment to justice. With his departure, fans wonder: What is CID without ACP Pradyuman?
