NDA Sweeps Bihar, Mahagathbandhan Faces Crushing Defeat

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has achieved a remarkable victory in the Bihar Assembly elections, returning to power with an overwhelming three-fourths majority. Led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the coalition secured 202 out of 243 seats, reaffirming its political dominance in the state. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged as the single-largest party with 89 seats, followed by the Janata Dal (United) with 85 seats. Other NDA allies also performed well, with the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) winning 19 seats, the Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) securing 5 seats, and the Rashtriya Lok Morcha winning 4 seats.

In stark contrast, the opposition Mahagathbandhan suffered a significant setback, winning only 35 seats. The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) remained the largest party within the alliance with 25 seats, while the Congress secured only 6 seats. Smaller allies, including the CPI(ML), CPI(M), and the Indian Independence Party, garnered just one or two seats each. Additionally, the Asaduddin Owaisi-led AIMIM contested independently and won five seats, marking its presence once again in the Seemanchal region.

The NDA’s overall vote share was 46.7%, while the INDIA bloc collectively managed 37.5%. Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj, participating for the first time, failed to win any seats.

Reacting to the results, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi described the outcome as “truly surprising” and alleged that the election was “not fair from the start.” He added that the INDIA bloc would conduct a thorough review of the entire electoral process. “We respect the mandate, but we cannot ignore the facts. We will continue our fight to save democracy and truth,” he said in a statement.

This victory not only strengthens Nitish Kumar’s leadership but also represents a significant setback for the united opposition, which had hoped to challenge the BJP-led alliance in the upcoming state polls and the 2029 General Elections.

With this massive win, the NDA is poised to form the government once again, continuing its governance in Bihar. The political climate suggests that the ruling alliance’s social coalition, welfare schemes, and organizational strength played crucial roles in gaining voter trust.

As Bihar’s political landscape undergoes this transformation, all eyes will be on how the Mahagathbandhan restructures itself and whether the INDIA bloc can regain lost ground in the coming months.
