Chilean President Gabriel Boric Arrives in India for First State Visit

New Delhi: Chilean President Gabriel Boric Font arrived in India on Monday for his first-ever state visit, marking a significant step in strengthening relations between India and Chile. Upon his arrival, he received a ceremonial welcome complete with a Guard of Honour, emphasizing the importance of this diplomatic engagement.

President Boric was warmly welcomed at the airport by Union Minister of State Pabitra Margherita. The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, shared the news on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Bienvenido, President Gabriel Boric Font! He received a ceremonial welcome and a Guard of Honour. His visit aims to enhance cooperation between India and Chile in various sectors.”

During his visit from April 1 to 5, Boric will engage with key Indian leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu. Discussions will center on trade, economic cooperation, and global issues of mutual interest. India and Chile enjoy strong diplomatic ties, particularly in areas such as renewable energy, climate change, and innovation.

In addition to New Delhi, the Chilean President will visit Agra, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. In these cities, he will interact with business leaders, startups, and innovators to explore new opportunities for trade and investment. Chile has been a key partner for India in Latin America, with both nations collaborating in various multilateral forums. Notably, Chile has supported India’s bid for a permanent seat in the UN Security Council since 2003.

With a high-level delegation that includes government officials, business representatives, and cultural figures, Boric’s visit signifies a new chapter in India-Chile relations. His schedule features bilateral talks, business meetings, and cultural exchanges, further strengthening the foundation for future cooperation between the two nations.
