Doraemon Bids Farewell To Indonesian TV After 35 Years
For generations of Indonesian viewers, Sunday mornings were synonymous with the adventures of a blue robotic cat from the future. That long-standing ritual has now come to an unexpected end. After more than 35 years on air, the popular Japanese anime Doraemon has stopped broadcasting on Indonesia’s Rajawali Citra Televisi Indonesia (RCTI), marking the close of a cultural chapter for millions.
The anime, which follows Doraemon, a robot cat from the 22nd century, and his efforts to help the accident-prone Nobita Nobi navigate everyday challenges, has been absent from RCTI’s programming schedule since the end of 2025. The sudden disappearance has left fans confused and emotional, triggering widespread reactions across social media platforms.
RCTI has not released any official statement explaining why the long-running show was dropped. Since Sunday, January 4, 2026, the broadcaster’s Instagram and other social media handles have been flooded with comments from disappointed viewers. Many fans said Doraemon was the primary reason they tuned in to the channel every week.
Several users pleaded for the show’s return, with comments such as, “Please re-air Doraemon on RCTI,” and “Since Doraemon stopped airing, RCTI isn’t exciting anymore.” Others echoed the same sentiment, saying the anime had been a constant part of their childhood and family routines.
As fans continue to express nostalgia and disappointment, the future of Doraemon on Indonesian television remains uncertain, with viewers hoping the iconic series will once again find its way back to local screens.
