India Women Seal Historic T20 Series Win Over England

In a major milestone, India Women registered their first-ever T20I series win against England, claiming a commanding six-wicket victory in the fourth match of the five-game series. With this win, the Women in Blue lead 3–1, with the final match scheduled in Birmingham on July 12.

The Indian bowlers dominated the game, restricting England to 126/7. Radha Yadav (2/15), 20-year-old Shree Charani (2/30), and Deepti Sharma (1/29) led the charge. The batting response was led by openers Shafali Verma (32) and Smriti Mandhana (31), who stitched a 56-run opening partnership. Jemimah Rodrigues and Harmanpreet Kaur ensured a smooth chase, with India reaching the target with 18 balls to spare.

Harmanpreet Kaur expressed her pride in the team’s performance and preparation. “This series was crucial ahead of the T20 World Cup next year, and I’m happy with how every player contributed,” she said.

India had previously never won a bilateral T20I series against England, either at home or abroad. The breakthrough comes after 19 years since their first T20I clash in 2006. Kaur also equalled Mithali Raj’s record for most international caps (333) for India.

Statistically, the series was full of records. Deepti Sharma and Sophie Ecclestone now jointly hold the record for the most wickets (23) in India-England women’s T20Is.

This historic win not only boosts team morale but also strengthens India’s chances ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England next year.
