Railways Launches ‘Swarnim Bharat Yatra’ to Celebrate Freedom Movement
As part of Independence Day celebrations, Indian Railways has announced the launch of the ‘Swarnim Bharat Yatra’, a special heritage tour train under the Bharat Gaurav scheme. Starting from Delhi Safdarjung Railway Station on August 14, 2025, the tour offers a 9-night, 10-day spiritual and historical journey through significant landmarks of India’s freedom movement and cultural heritage.
The first stop of the Yatra is the Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad, a pivotal centre of Mahatma Gandhi’s Satyagraha movement. From there, the itinerary includes visits to Adalaj Stepwell, the Sun Temple in Modhera, and Rani Ki Vav in Patan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The train then heads to Kevadia, where travellers will see the Statue of Unity, the world’s tallest statue, along with the Sardar Sarovar Dam. The journey continues to Pune’s Aga Khan Palace, linked to the Quit India Movement, and the Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga.
Tourists will also explore the majestic Ajanta and Ellora Caves and the Ghrishneshwar Jyotirlinga at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad), before concluding the tour with stops at Jhansi Fort and Orchha.
The Deluxe AC Tourist Train will accommodate 150 passengers and is equipped with First AC, Second AC, and Third AC coaches. Onboard amenities include dining cars, foot massagers, shower cubicles, sensor-based washrooms, and CCTV-enabled security. Boarding is available from Delhi, Gurgaon, Rewari, Ringas, Phulera, and Ajmer.
The IRCTC has priced the tour at ₹71,585 (3AC), ₹81,675 (2AC), ₹94,845 (1AC Cabin), and ₹1,01,430 (1AC Coupe). The package includes accommodation in three-star hotels, vegetarian meals, insurance, sightseeing in AC vehicles, and assistance from IRCTC tour managers.
