3.5 Crore Devotees Gather for Amrit Snan at Maha Kumbh 2025

Prayagraj witnessed a historic spiritual gathering on the occasion of Makar Sankranti, as 35 million devotees participated in the first Amrit Snan, also known as Shahi Snan, of Maha Kumbh 2025 at the Triveni Sangam. The confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati resounded with “Har Har Gange chants,” becoming a symbol of faith and devotion.

The Amrit Snan began during the sacred Brahmamahurta, with Naga Sadhus leading the ritual in a grand procession. Mounted on horses and carrying tridents, swords, and cymbals, the sadhus from Mahanirvani Akhada were the first to take the dip, followed by sadhus from Niranjani Akhada, Panchdashnam Juna Akhada, Aawahan Akhada, and Panch Agni Akhada. The Bairagi Akhadas, along with the Udasin and Nirmal Akhadas, completed the sacred bathing sequence determined by the Akhada Parishad.

A remarkable highlight of this year’s Kumbh was the participation of over 500 transgender sadhus, led by Tina Ma. Expressing gratitude and pride, Tina Ma called it a historic moment for the community, stating, “We are thankful to Ma Ganga and pray for the nation’s progress.”

Pilgrims from around the world joined the event, showcasing its universal appeal.

Advanced monitoring systems such as drones, CCTV cameras, and thermal imaging were deployed to ensure safety. Principal Secretary (Home) Sanjay Prasad highlighted the extensive measures in place for crowd management.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath extended his wishes, stating, “This is the living form of our eternal culture and faith. Congratulations to all devotees who earned virtue by taking the first Amrit Snan at the Triveni Sangam in Mahakumbh 2025.

The Maha Kumbh continues to stand as a testament to India’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage.
