Heavy Rainfall Predicted in Delhi-NCR and North India
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued widespread heavy rain alerts for several northern states, including Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh. The forecast covers the period from July 15 to July 18, with varying intensities expected across these regions.
Delhi experienced a fresh round of rainfall on Monday, providing some relief from the heat but also indicating a week of continued wet weather ahead. The IMD predicts heavy downpours on Tuesday for both the national capital and its surrounding areas.
In Uttar Pradesh, a red alert has been issued for 13 districts, including Bahraich, Azamgarh, Varanasi, Prayagraj, and Ballia. Bihar is also expected to face heavy rainfall in regions such as Patna, Nalanda, and Aurangabad. These areas may experience waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and localized flooding.
Himachal Pradesh is under a yellow alert, with rain expected in districts like Shimla, Mandi, and Solan. Uttarakhand is facing an orange alert for Bageshwar, Dehradun, and Nainital, where the hilly regions might also encounter landslides and road blockages due to the persistent rainfall.
The IMD has further predicted heavy rainfall in parts of Madhya Pradesh and a red alert for Rajasthan divisions, including Kota, Jaipur, and Jodhpur. Maharashtra and Goa are also expected to witness intense rainfall, particularly in the Konkan and Ghat regions.
Additionally, Northeast India is forecasted to receive consistent rain, with isolated heavy showers likely over Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh during the period from July 13 to July 18.
Commuters are advised to stay updated with local weather bulletins and exercise caution during travel. The IMD’s continuous advisories aim to minimize damage and assist civic authorities in better preparation for potential disruptions.
While the extended monsoon activity helps replenish groundwater and support agriculture, it also presents challenges to urban infrastructure and rural connectivity. Authorities are on high alert, and citizens are urged to remain vigilant.
