Air Force Staffer Arrested For Alleged Espionage In Assam
A civilian employee at an Indian Air Force station in Assam has been arrested for allegedly spying and sharing sensitive information with Pakistani handlers. This arrest was part of a joint operation carried out by intelligence agencies.
The accused, identified as Sumit Kumar, 36, is a resident of Uttar Pradesh and worked as a multi-tasking staff (MTS) at the Air Force Station in Chabua, Dibrugarh. Officials reported that Kumar had been under surveillance following intelligence inputs.
The investigation began earlier this year after a suspect was arrested in Jaisalmer in January 2026. During the investigation, authorities uncovered links that led them to Sumit Kumar.
According to officials, Kumar had been in contact with Pakistani intelligence operatives since 2023. He allegedly shared confidential information related to Air Force installations in exchange for money, including details about fighter aircraft locations, missile systems, and personnel-related data.
It is believed that Kumar used social media platforms to transmit sensitive information. After his arrest, he was taken to Jaipur for further questioning at a central interrogation facility, where multiple intelligence agencies are involved in the investigation.
A case has been registered against him under the Official Secrets Act of 1923, along with relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Officials are now working to determine whether more individuals are involved in the espionage network.
This incident has raised serious concerns regarding national security and internal surveillance systems. Security agencies are implementing strict measures to prevent such breaches in the future.
Further investigation is ongoing, and authorities are expected to reveal more details as the case develops.
