Hemant Soren to Take Oath as Jharkhand’s 14th CM Today

Hemant Soren, leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), is set to take oath as the 14th Chief Minister of Jharkhand today, November 28, at 4 PM at Ranchi’s Morabadi Ground. The 49-year-old politician, who is taking the reins of the state for the fourth time, will be administered the oath of office and secrecy by Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar.

The event is expected to witness the presence of several prominent leaders from the INDIA bloc and other political parties. Soren, who retained the Barhait Assembly seat with a commanding margin of 39,791 votes in the recently held elections, led the JMM-led alliance to a landslide victory, securing 56 out of 81 seats in the Jharkhand Assembly.

Historic Mandate for JMM-Led Alliance

JMM achieved its highest-ever tally by winning 34 of the 43 seats it contested. Its alliance partners, Congress, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), and CPI(ML), contributed 21, 4, and 2 seats respectively. The BJP-led NDA, on the other hand, managed to secure only 24 seats.

As per reports, the INDIA bloc has decided to allot one ministerial berth to RJD in Soren’s cabinet. Congress general secretary and Jharkhand in-charge Ghulam Ahmad Mir confirmed that Soren is likely to take the oath alone, with cabinet expansion planned post a confidence vote in the Assembly.
