CBSE Announces Major Change for Class 10 Board Exams

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced a significant change to the Class 10 examination process starting from the next academic year. Under the new policy, students who fail in three or more subjects in the first board examination will not be eligible to appear for the second examination.

Previously, students could take a compartment examination to improve their scores in specific subjects they had failed. However, the revised rule is aimed at ensuring students take their studies seriously from the beginning of the academic session.

According to CBSE, the updated system will now include two board examinations each year. Students failing in only one or two subjects will still be allowed to appear for improvement or compartment exams as per the earlier pattern. But those failing in three or more subjects will have to reappear for the board exams in the next academic session.

The move is expected to reduce last-minute study pressure and promote consistent academic performance. Education experts believe this decision could help students focus on long-term learning rather than relying solely on the possibility of compartment exams.

The CBSE has clarified that this change applies only to Class 10 examinations from the 2025 academic session onwards. Class 12 examination rules will remain unchanged.

This change aligns with CBSE’s ongoing efforts to improve learning outcomes and assessment standards across schools in India. With an increasing emphasis on skill development and conceptual understanding, CBSE hopes this measure will encourage students to prepare more effectively throughout the year.
