Red Alert for Delhi-NCR and Haryana Amid Heavy Rain Forecast
New Delhi | July 29, 2025: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded a red alert for Delhi-NCR and parts of Haryana, forecasting intense rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds throughout the day. Residents have been advised to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel.
The alert covers major locations across Delhi, including North Campus, Pitampura, DU Ridge, Rajghat, and Qutub Minar, with rain expected to intensify in the next 2–3 hours. Winds may reach speeds of 40 kmph, accompanied by lightning and a significant drop in daytime temperatures.
According to the IMD forecast, maximum temperatures are likely to hover between 29–31°C, while minimum temperatures may rise slightly above normal. This sharp contrast is expected to bring relief from the prolonged heat, but it also increases the risk of local flooding.
The weather disturbance is not limited to Delhi. Heavy rainfall is also forecast for Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Kerala. The southern peninsular region may witness strong winds up to 50 kmph, especially along coastal areas.
Prolonged rain spells are likely in the Northeast, particularly Assam and Meghalaya, till August 3. The IMD has urged state governments to stay prepared for potential disruptions, including waterlogging and damage to infrastructure.
With back-to-back downpours and regional alerts, July 29 is expected to be one of the wettest days of the monsoon season so far.
