Delhi Weather: Humidity Rises, Rainfall Intermittent

The capital city continues to experience an uncomfortable mix of grey skies, humidity, and sporadic rainfall as monsoon conditions fluctuate across the Delhi-NCR region. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), no major rainfall alert has been issued, but light to moderate rain is expected to continue until July 22.

Despite the official arrival of the monsoon weeks ago, residents are still awaiting sustained heavy rainfall. On July 16, the IMD forecast suggested a similar pattern of light showers, occasional thunderstorms, and lingering cloud cover through the week.

A yellow alert was issued earlier this week after unexpected evening showers lashed parts of the city and surrounding NCR regions. IMD official RK Jenamani stated that intermittent rain, along with lightning and gusty winds, will continue from July 17 to 22.

This sporadic rain pattern has resulted in rising humidity levels, making daily life uncomfortable for commuters and residents. The morning skies often appear overcast, but rainfall remains limited or inconsistent throughout the day.

According to the IMD’s weekly bulletin, July 17 and 18 will likely bring light rain and cloudy skies, while July 19 and 20 will see only traces of rainfall. The end of the week—July 21 and 22—could witness moderate showers accompanied by thunder and lightning.

The fluctuating pattern is being closely monitored, especially with the city’s ongoing challenges of waterlogging, drainage issues, and heat retention in urban zones. Citizens are advised to keep umbrellas handy and stay indoors during lightning events.

Although the rainfall is below normal for this period, weather officials remain optimistic that more consistent rain may follow by late July. For now, Delhiites must prepare for a humid and unpredictable week ahead.
