NHAI Introduces FASTag Annual Pass For Private Vehicles
In a significant move to enhance highway travel convenience, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has introduced an annual FASTag pass for private vehicle owners. The pass enables toll-free passage on National Highway (NH) and North-East (NE) toll plazas for up to one year or 200 trips—whichever comes first.
The pass is exclusively for private, non-commercial vehicles like cars, jeeps, and vans, and is priced at ₹73,000 for the base year 2025–26. It can only be activated through the Rajmargyatra mobile app or the official NHAI website. Once activated, the FASTag gets updated within two hours.
To be eligible, a vehicle’s details must match the VAHAN database, and the FASTag must be verified. If a private annual pass is misused on a commercial vehicle, it will be deactivated without notice.
However, the pass is valid only for NH and NE toll plazas. On expressways, state highways, and other local roads, the FASTag functions as usual, and regular tolls will apply. In point-based toll systems, each direction counts as one trip, while closed toll systems count one complete journey as a single trip.
Once the trip or time limit is exhausted, the FASTag automatically reverts to standard mode. Users can reactivate the pass to continue enjoying its benefits.
This new feature aims to streamline highway toll collection while offering added convenience to regular highway travelers.
