Gurgaon Gets NCR’s First LPG ATM for Instant Cylinder Exchange
Gurgaon has become the first city in the National Capital Region to introduce an LPG vending machine, marking a significant step toward modernizing fuel distribution. The smart LPG ATM at Central Park Flower Valley enables residents to exchange gas cylinders within minutes via a fully automated, contactless system.
This vending machine, introduced by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited under its Bharatgas service, dispenses lightweight composite LPG cylinders. These new cylinders are designed to be more user-friendly compared to traditional iron cylinders. While conventional cylinders weigh approximately 31 kg when full, the composite versions weigh nearly half as much, making them easier to carry and handle. Additionally, their transparent design allows users to monitor gas levels at a glance.
The refill process is straightforward and digital. Consumers with a registered Bharatgas composite connection can enter their mobile number, verify it via OTP, and scan the QR code or barcode on the empty cylinder. After making a digital payment through UPI or a debit card, the machine conducts an eligibility check before dispensing a filled cylinder and storing the empty one.
Installed on March 6, the machine can store up to 10 cylinders at a time. When the stock drops to two cylinders, the nearest agency is automatically alerted for replenishment. However, awareness of this facility remains low, with only a few transactions recorded so far.
Residents have welcomed the initiative, highlighting the convenience of 24/7 access. This system eliminates the need to wait for delivery, offering quick, efficient service that is especially beneficial for working households.
According to officials, the introduction of the LPG ATM is part of a pilot project aimed at testing automated gas distribution systems in select locations. This initiative reflects efforts to leverage technology to improve accessibility and efficiency in essential services.
Authorities have confirmed that the facility will continue operating even after the current LPG supply challenges are resolved, indicating a long-term shift toward smarter, more convenient fuel distribution solutions in urban areas.
