Gurugram Traffic Police Fines Nearly 10,000 Auto, Taxi Drivers for Uniform Violation
Gurugram, April 4, 2025 — In a strict enforcement drive, the Gurugram Traffic Police has issued 9,695 challans between January and March 2025 to auto, e-rickshaw, and taxi drivers for violating the mandatory uniform rule. This initiative led to the collection of a total fine amounting to ₹68.21 lakh.
The uniform policy, which came into effect in May 2024, requires all commercial drivers to wear a grey uniform paired with an identification badge. The move aims to help commuters easily identify registered and licensed drivers and enhance passenger safety.
Uniforms and badges make it easier for passengers to recognize registered drivers. We conducted awareness campaigns at several intersections, yet many drivers were found flouting the rule, leading to challans,” said DCP (Traffic) Virender Vij.
Despite repeated awareness drives by the police across prominent locations in Gurugram, many drivers continue to ignore the mandate. During the campaign, the traffic police not only enforced the dress code but also educated drivers about important safety norms.
“We sensitised them about maintaining courteous behaviour, following speed limits, avoiding mobile phone usage while driving, and staying sober behind the wheel,” DCP Vij added. He also mentioned that the police shared information about emergency contact numbers, such as Dial 112 and helpline 1095, for added public safety.
The drive is part of a broader campaign to bring discipline to public transport and improve the travel experience for daily commuters in the city.
