Gurugram Launches NEP Training for School Principals

A district-level leadership training programme under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has been launched in Gurugram, aimed at strengthening the capabilities of government school principals and improving the on-ground implementation of NEP-driven reforms. The initiative is being organised by the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Gurugram, and will cover nearly 200 senior secondary school heads across two phases.

According to DIET officials, the first phase of the programme began on November 17 and will continue till November 19. It includes principals from the Gurugram cluster. The second phase, scheduled for November 20 to 22, will include principals from the Farrukhnagar, Sohna, and Pataudi blocks.

“The current phase of training is dedicated solely to principals of government senior secondary schools. Training for primary school principals will be conducted later,” said senior DIET lecturer Sona Yadav. She added that around 200 principals are expected to attend the first phase alone, making it one of the largest such initiatives in the district.

District Education Officer (DEO) Saroj Dahiya said the programme has been designed to build leadership capacity essential for successfully implementing NEP 2020 reforms at the school level. “This training focuses on strategic planning and leadership skills. It will help principals understand their roles and responsibilities in implementing the policy at the grassroots,” she said.

The three-day training includes sessions on key NEP modules such as foundational principles of the policy, design thinking as a classroom approach, life skills, and the role of school heads in enabling skill-based and holistic education. Discussions will also include ‘learning beyond textbooks’, competency-based learning, and the National Curriculum Framework 2023.

“Principals will begin the second and third day with feedback-based reflection sessions to identify gaps and challenges. DIET faculty members will conduct all modules,” Yadav said. She noted that the programme has been structured to improve leadership, enhance school autonomy, and strengthen the implementation of NEP in government schools.

She added, “This initiative is not just a workshop but an important step towards creating school leaders who can drive systemic transformation across Gurugram.”

Officials believe that the programme will help institutionalize NEP reforms, promote skill-based education, and ensure that principals lead their schools toward modern teaching models aligned with national policy goals.
