Indian Navy Ships Deliver Relief Aid to Myanmar Under ‘Operation Brahma’

Yangon: India has launched ‘Operation Brahma’ to provide emergency humanitarian aid to Myanmar following a devastating 7.7-magnitude earthquake. The earthquake struck Myanmar’s central Sagaing region, claiming over 2,000 lives, with rescuers still searching for survivors. Tremors were felt as far away as Bangkok, Thailand, and parts of China, resulting in widespread destruction.

As part of the relief efforts, two Indian Navy ships, INS Satpura and INS Savitri, arrived in Yangon carrying over 50 tons of relief supplies to assist affected communities. The Indian Embassy in Myanmar confirmed the delivery, stating, “Fifty tons of HADR relief material carried by INS Satpura and INS Savitri were handed over by Ambassador Abhay Thakur today in Yangon. With the help of six Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft and five Indian Navy ships, India’s large-scale first-responder assistance has been successfully delivered to Yangon, Naypyitaw, and Mandalay.”

‘Operation Brahma’ was initiated on March 29 to provide urgent relief to Myanmar. In addition to the Navy ships, the Indian Air Force had previously delivered 15 tons of aid, which included food, water, tents, and medical supplies. India’s Ambassador to Myanmar, Abhay Thakur, formally handed over the relief materials in Yangon in the presence of Chief Minister U Soe Thein.

This mission underscores India’s commitment to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief in the region. Over the years, India has established itself as a reliable first responder during crises, extending help to neighboring countries affected by natural disasters. ‘Operation Brahma’ further strengthens India’s role in promoting regional cooperation and stability.
