PM Modi to Launch Major Infrastructure Projects During Assam Visit on February 14
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Assam on February 14, 2026, to inaugurate a series of significant infrastructure and development initiatives aimed at enhancing connectivity, digital infrastructure, education, and urban mobility in the North-Eastern Region.
The Prime Minister is set to arrive at around 10:30 AM at the Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) on the Moran Bypass in Dibrugarh. This facility, the first of its kind in Northeast India, has been developed in coordination with the Indian Air Force. It is designed to support both military and civilian aircraft during emergencies, serving as a strategic asset for disaster response and relief operations. The ELF can accommodate fighter aircraft weighing up to 40 tonnes and transport aircraft with a maximum take-off weight of 74 tonnes.
After his event in Dibrugarh, the Prime Minister will proceed to Guwahati to inaugurate key projects worth over ₹5,450 crore. One of the highlights is the inauguration of the Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu, which spans the Brahmaputra River. Built at an estimated cost of ₹3,030 crore, this six-lane extradosed prestressed concrete bridge will connect Guwahati with North Guwahati, significantly reducing travel time between the two regions to approximately seven minutes. The bridge features advanced seismic safety measures and a real-time Bridge Health Monitoring System to enhance its durability and operational safety.
The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the National Data Centre for the North-Eastern Region at Amingaon in the Kamrup district. This state-of-the-art facility aims to strengthen the region’s digital infrastructure by hosting mission-critical government applications and serving as a disaster recovery center for national data systems. In line with the Digital India vision, the center seeks to ensure secure and reliable digital services for citizens.
Additionally, the visit will include the inauguration of the Indian Institute of Management Guwahati, which is expected to enhance higher education and management studies in the region. The Prime Minister will also flag off 225 electric buses under the PM-eBus Sewa Scheme across multiple cities, including Guwahati, promoting cleaner and more affordable public transport solutions.
These projects collectively represent a significant commitment to improving regional infrastructure, enhancing strategic preparedness, and fostering sustainable urban development in Northeast India, with the expectation of benefiting millions of citizens in the years to come.
