President Droupadi Murmu Offers Arghya on Chhath Puja

New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu celebrated Chhath Puja with great devotion and enthusiasm at the President’s Estate in New Delhi. On this sacred occasion, she joined other devotees in offering Arghya to the setting sun, which is one of the most important rituals of the four-day festival.

The President’s Office shared beautiful glimpses of the celebration on X (formerly Twitter), where President Murmu was seen participating in the evening rituals. In her message, she prayed for the happiness, prosperity, and well-being of all citizens across the country.

Chhath Puja is one of the most significant festivals, primarily celebrated in Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and parts of Delhi. It is dedicated to the worship of Surya Dev (the Sun God) and Chhathi Maiya, seeking health, wealth, and success. The festival is marked by strict fasting, holy bathing, and offering prayers to both the rising and setting sun.

During the ceremony at the President’s Estate, the atmosphere was filled with devotion, songs of faith, and the fragrance of incense. Devotees stood in water to offer their prayers, expressing gratitude to the Sun God for sustaining life on Earth. President Murmu’s participation in these rituals added special significance to the occasion, underscoring the importance of India’s cultural and traditional roots.

The festival commenced with Nahay Khay and continued with Kharna, where devotees prepare offerings of kheer and fruits. The third day marks the Sandhya Arghya (evening offering), while the final day concludes with Usha Arghya (morning offering) to the rising sun.

Chhath Puja is not just a festival but a symbol of purity, discipline, and devotion. President Murmu’s presence at the celebration sends a strong message of unity, respect for tradition, and the spirit of togetherness that defines India’s rich culture.

The four-day Chhath Puja celebration will conclude on Tuesday morning with devotees offering prayers to the rising sun, marking the end of the festival.
