The Centre for Languages and Communication (CLC) organized a Guest Lecture on LITERATURE AND DISABILITY: AN INTERDISCIPLINARY APPROACH  

To celebrate International Women’s Day 2023, the Centre for Languages and Communication (CLC) organized a Guest Lecture on LITERATURE AND DISABILITY: AN INTERDISCIPLINARY APPROACH   at R-318 (Hall), A-Block on 14th March 2023 at 10:00 AM. Dr. B.R. Alamelu, Associate Professor, Indraprastha College for Women, University of Delhi, delivered the Lecture-Interactive session, attended by more than 180 students from the English Honours and Faculty of Nursing. The Lecture began with an Introduction to the Centre and a Welcome note by student anchors Ms. Pranjal and Ms. Sanjana. Dr. Sarju Devi, Head of Department, CLC, welcomed the august presence and offered the thematic note. She emphasized the relevance of discussing implementing an Interdisciplinary Approach in teaching Language, Literature, and Disability studies. The Expert speaker, Dr. Alamelu spoke extensively on the interdisciplinary approach to language, literature, and disability. She emphasizes how language and literature shape our understanding of disability and how disability is represented in literature. Dr. Alamelu shared many experiences and examples from literary works to elaborate on how the language used to describe disability can perpetuate negative stereotypes or reinforce stigmatizing attitudes. The Expert concluded her lecture by discussing the need and extension of an interdisciplinary approach to language, literature, and disability to other social science disciplines to deepen our understanding of disability, challenge ableist assumptions, and promote greater acceptance and inclusion for people with disabilities.
To conclude the event, Prof. Sam Raj Nesamony summed up the lecture and BA (Hons) English, Janvi gave the Vote of thanks.
