SGT University Students Gain Firsthand Insights at National Dope Testing Laboratory

Postgraduate students from the MPT Sports Program at SGT University recently visited the National Dope Testing Laboratory (NDTL) in India, guided by Dr. P. L. Sahu. This visit provided them with valuable insights into advanced doping detection techniques and anti-doping protocols, which are essential for ensuring fair play in sports.

During the visit, students were introduced to cutting-edge analytical methods used to detect banned substances in athletes. They explored various techniques, including Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS), Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS), and Gas Chromatography-Combustion-Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometry (GC-IRMS), all of which are crucial for identifying performance-enhancing drugs. Additionally, they learned about biological marker testing for hormones such as human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) and luteinizing hormone (LH), which play a significant role in anti-doping evaluations.

A highlight of the visit was an interactive session with Dr. Sahu, where students and faculty engaged in discussions about anti-doping science, ethical sports practices, and the future of doping control in India. Dr. Sahu emphasized the importance of technological advancements in maintaining the integrity of sports and encouraged students to contribute to the field through research and ethical practices.

This experiential learning opportunity not only enhanced the students’ technical knowledge but also inspired them to advocate for clean and fair sports practices. By interacting with experts and witnessing real-world testing methodologies, students took a significant step forward in their journey toward becoming future sports scientists and physiotherapists.

SGT University remains committed to providing hands-on learning experiences, ensuring that its students are well-equipped with the latest industry knowledge and practical exposure in sports science and physiotherapy.
