Roshni Nadar Malhotra Becomes India’s 3rd Richest Person After Major Stake Transfer

A new powerhouse has emerged among India’s wealthiest individuals: Roshni Nadar Malhotra, now officially the third richest person in the country, trailing only business magnates Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani. This remarkable shift follows a pivotal decision by her father, Shiv Nadar, the visionary founder of HCL Technologies, who transferred a significant portion of his stake to her.

On March 6, Shiv Nadar gifted 47% of his stake in Vama Sundari Investments (Delhi) Private Limited and HCL Corporation Private Limited to Roshni through two gift deeds. This transfer made her the largest shareholder of HCL Corp, positioning her at the helm of one of India’s most prominent tech giants—HCL Technologies and HCL Infosystems.

A Legacy of Leadership and Innovation

Born in 1982 in New Delhi, Roshni Nadar Malhotra is the only child of Shiv and Kiran Nadar. She completed her schooling at Vasant Valley School and went on to pursue a degree in Communications from Northwestern University, later earning her MBA from the prestigious Kellogg School of Management.

Roshni’s leadership extends beyond the family business. She is a member of the Dean’s Advisory Council at the MIT School of Engineering and serves on the Executive Board for Asia at Kellogg. Additionally, she holds influential positions globally, including being a board member of the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) and an independent director on the board of HDFC Asset Management Company.

Championing Philanthropy and Social Change

In addition to her corporate achievements, Roshni is deeply committed to philanthropy. Through the Shiv Nadar Foundation, she has played a pivotal role in launching initiatives like VidyaGyan, a leadership academy for underprivileged students. Her work in education and social change underscores her dedication to giving back to society.

On a personal note, Roshni is married to Shikhar Malhotra, the vice chairman of HCL Healthcare. Together, they form a formidable duo, blending business acumen with a passion for social impact.

As the largest stakeholder of HCL Corp, Roshni Nadar Malhotra represents not just inherited success but also modern leadership, innovation, and philanthropy. Her journey serves as a testament to the power of vision, education, and dedication, inspiring millions across India and beyond.
