GMRL Issues Letter of Allotment for Gurugram Metro Phase-1
The Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) has officially issued the letter of allotment to a joint venture of Dilip Buildcon and Ranjit Buildcon for the construction of the first phase of the Gurugram Metro project. The allotment letter was released on August 14, and the contractor has been instructed to mobilise the project site at the earliest.
A senior GMRL official stated, “The letter of allotment was issued to the lowest bidder on August 14. The corporation has asked the contractor to ensure an early start of work, and efforts are being made to ensure that the land required for construction, the metro depot, and casting yard is made available quickly.”
The metro project, with a tender value of ₹1,286 crore, saw participation from six firms. The Dilip Buildcon-led joint venture emerged as the lowest bidder at ₹1,277 crore (inclusive of GST). GMRL has already appointed a general consultant and a detailed design consultant to accelerate planning and design activities.
To ensure smooth progress, GMRL has also decided to expand the metro coordination committee. This committee will now include representatives from utility providers such as PNG and CNG companies. In addition, a separate technical committee comprising engineers and experts from departments like electricity, drainage, sewerage, gas, and water supply will be formed. This team will provide cost estimates and oversee the shifting of essential services during the construction period.
Project Details
The first phase of the Gurugram Metro will involve the construction of:
-
15.22 km elevated viaduct
-
15 stations along the corridor
-
1.85 km spur connecting to Dwarka Expressway
-
A ramp leading to the proposed metro depot at Sector 33
The corridor will link Millennium City Centre to Sector 9, improving connectivity within the city and easing traffic congestion. Officials believe that once operational, the metro will significantly enhance urban mobility in Gurugram, benefiting daily commuters and reducing the pressure on road infrastructure.
The GMRL has stressed the importance of an early start and steady progress on the project, as it is one of the key infrastructure developments under Haryana’s urban transport initiatives. With the allotment letter now issued, ground work is expected to begin soon, marking the first step towards expanding Gurugram’s public transport network.
