C P Radhakrishnan Takes Oath as India’s 15th Vice President

C P Radhakrishnan sworn in as the 15th Vice President of India on Friday, September 12. The oath was administered by President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan in a ceremony attended by top leaders across the political spectrum. The event took place at 10 am and marked a new chapter in the country’s leadership.

Radhakrishnan, 67, won the vice-presidential election on September 9, defeating opposition candidate B. Sudershan Reddy by a margin of 152 votes. The election became necessary after the sudden resignation of then-Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on July 21 due to health issues. Dhankhar also made his first public appearance at the oath-taking ceremony.

Dignitaries in Attendance

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP President JP Nadda, and several senior leaders attended the swearing-in ceremony. Former Vice Presidents Hamid Ansari and Venkaiah Naidu were also present, highlighting the significance of the occasion.

A Victory for Nationalistic Ideology

In his remarks following the election, Radhakrishnan described his win as a victory for nationalistic ideology. He said, “The other side camp (opposition alliance) said that this election is an ideological fight, but from the voting pattern, we understand that the nationalistic ideology has emerged victorious.”

He emphasized that his election was not just a personal achievement but “a victory for every Indian.” Radhakrishnan vowed to work with dedication to achieve Viksit Bharat by 2047, a vision of a fully developed India on the centenary of independence.

Call for Unity and Development

The Vice President-elect urged leaders across the spectrum to rise above partisan politics. “If we want to develop Viksit Bharat by 2047, we should not do politics in everything. Now, we will have to concentrate on development,” he said.

Significance of the Role

As the second-highest Constitutional authority, the Vice President serves as the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, making the role crucial in legislative functioning and national decision-making. Radhakrishnan’s appointment comes at a time when India is navigating significant domestic and global challenges.

His leadership is expected to bring continuity, stability, and a focus on the nationalistic agenda, aligning with the government’s long-term development goals.
