Budget Session of Parliament 2025 to Begin on January 31
The Budget Session of Parliament is scheduled to begin on January 31, 2025, and will run until April 4, with a break from February 14 to March 9. The session will start with President Droupadi Murmu addressing a joint sitting of both Houses of Parliament.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Union Budget on February 1, marking a key highlight of the session. This budget is expected to outline the government’s financial roadmap for the upcoming fiscal year.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to address the debate on the motion of thanks in response to the President’s Address, which traditionally sets the tone for parliamentary proceedings.
During this session, the Joint Parliamentary Committee on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill is anticipated to submit its report. The committee’s term was extended during the winter session to allow for further deliberations.
Another significant discussion will focus on the Joint Parliamentary Committee concerning the implementation of “One Nation, One Election.” This committee was instructed to present its report during the final week of the session, but there are demands to extend its term since it only held its first meeting recently.
The previous winter session of Parliament concluded on a contentious note, with tensions between BJP members and the opposition over alleged misbehavior during protests in the Parliament premises. This has raised hopes for a more cooperative atmosphere during the upcoming session.
The Budget Session, one of the most important sittings of Parliament, will address critical legislative and policy issues while also debating reports and proposals from various committees.
