20 Lakh LPG Cylinders Planned for Char Dham Yatra 2026

Preparations for the Char Dham Yatra 2026 are in full swing, with authorities planning extensive logistical arrangements to manage the expected surge in pilgrims. One of the key highlights this year is the estimated need for nearly 20 lakh LPG cylinders to support food services along the yatra route.

Officials have submitted a proposal to the Uttarakhand government outlining the requirement for both commercial and domestic LPG cylinders across seven districts. These cylinders will primarily serve hotels, restaurants, dhabas, and roadside eateries, accommodating thousands of pilgrims daily.

The demand projection is based on last year’s consumption trends. During the initial two months of the 2025 yatra, around 16 lakh LPG cylinders were used. With an anticipated increase in footfall this year, authorities have raised the estimate to between 18 and 20 lakh cylinders.

The Char Dham Yatra, which includes visits to Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath, attracts lakhs of devotees each year. The pilgrimage holds immense spiritual significance and requires strong infrastructure support, especially in remote mountainous areas.

To ensure smooth operations, the Tourism Department is coordinating with oil companies and district administrations. Authorities have gathered data on last year’s consumption patterns to better plan supply distribution and avoid shortages during peak periods.

Officials emphasized that an uninterrupted LPG supply is crucial for maintaining food services and ensuring a comfortable experience for pilgrims. Given the challenging terrain and limited alternatives in remote areas, efficient fuel supply is even more important.

However, authorities also acknowledged potential challenges due to global energy supply disruptions influenced by geopolitical tensions. Despite this, they assured that proactive planning and coordination efforts are in place.

With the yatra scheduled to begin on April 19, 2026, Uttarakhand is preparing to handle the massive influx of devotees, ensuring safety, convenience, and proper facilities throughout this sacred journey.
