India and New Zealand Strengthen Ties with Key Agreements

India and New Zealand have taken a significant step to strengthen their diplomatic relations by signing five key agreements in the areas of Defense, Education, Sports, Horticulture, and Forestry. These agreements were exchanged following bilateral discussions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his New Zealand counterpart, Christopher Luxon, in New Delhi.

During a joint press statement, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the importance of formalizing defense and security partnerships between the two nations. He also announced the commencement of negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement aimed at increasing mutual trade and investment.

Another major highlight of the meeting was the launch of negotiations for a mobility arrangement to facilitate the movement of professionals and skilled workers. In a move to enhance their cooperation in global affairs, New Zealand has joined the Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative and has become a member of the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure.

Prime Minister Modi assured that both countries would continue to collaborate against terrorism, separatism, and radical elements. Meanwhile, PM Luxon confirmed New Zealand’s decision to expand its diplomatic presence in India, further solidifying their bilateral ties.

Later in the day, PM Luxon and his delegation met with President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhawan, marking a significant moment in his five-day visit to India
