Pakistan Violates Ceasefire at LoC in Poonch, Indian Army Retaliates Strongly

Poonch: The Indian Army successfully thwarted an infiltration attempt by the Pakistan Army in the Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district, responding strongly to ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC). The recent cross-border firing, which resulted in heavy casualties for Pakistan, marks a significant escalation in hostilities in the region.

This is the first time the Indian Army has officially confirmed a ceasefire violation by Pakistan, although similar incidents of cross-border firing were reported in the Krishna Ghati sector earlier this year in February.

Infiltration Attempt Foiled

On Tuesday, Pakistani soldiers and infiltrators initiated unprovoked firing in an attempt to cross into Indian territory. The Indian Army immediately responded with a robust counterattack, effectively neutralizing the threat. Sources indicate that four to five infiltrators from the Pakistan Army were reportedly killed in the exchange, though official confirmation is still awaited. The Indian Army stated that there were no casualties or damage on its side. The firing continued intermittently throughout the day, and the Indian Army remains fully deployed in the Krishna Ghati area to prevent further escalations.

Surge in Cross-Border Firing at the LoC

Over the past two months, there has been a notable increase in cross-border firing incidents along the LoC, particularly in the southern Pir Panjal region. Reports suggest a rise in sniper attacks, random firing, and attempts by Pakistan’s Border Action Team (BAT). Indian Army sources confirm that all incursions have been dealt with promptly and decisively. In early February, Pakistani troops used small arms and explosives along the LoC, prompting another strong response from Indian forces. Despite diplomatic efforts, Pakistan’s ceasefire violations have continued.

Fragility of the Ceasefire Agreement

The recent surge in hostilities comes nearly four years after India and Pakistan reaffirmed their ceasefire agreement in February 2021. The agreement, reached between the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries, aimed to stabilize the LoC and prevent unnecessary escalations. However, the latest violations, particularly in the Poonch sector, raise concerns about the sustainability of the ceasefire.

As tensions rise, the Indian Army continues to maintain a high state of alert along the LoC, ensuring the nation’s security and integrity against any further incursions.
