Operation Sindoor Debate Dominates Parliament Monsoon Session
The Monsoon Session of Parliament is witnessing intense debate and charged exchanges as discussions on Operation Sindoor continue into the week. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to speak in the Lok Sabha today, following a fiery session on Monday that featured Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and Deputy Leader of Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi.
Monday’s debate lasted till 1 AM, reflecting the seriousness of the matter at hand—India’s response to the Pahalgam terror attack. Rajnath Singh opened the debate with a detailed report on security operations, while Jaishankar reaffirmed that “no trade discussions” were linked to the U.S. talks on the matter. He also cited strong condemnations from Quad and BRICS countries regarding the attack.
Opposition leader Gaurav Gogoi slammed the central government for its slow progress, noting that over 100 days have passed since the April 22 attack, and the terrorists involved are still at large. The issue has gained political traction with the opposition INDIA bloc using the incident to question the Centre’s handling of national security.
Meanwhile, outside the Parliament, protests continue over Bihar’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list. Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Sonia Gandhi were seen leading demonstrations, urging the Election Commission to pause the revision exercise. They argue that the timing and lack of transparency in the process could affect electoral fairness.
The debate will now shift to the Rajya Sabha, where a 16-hour discussion is scheduled. Political observers suggest that Amit Shah’s address today could significantly shape the narrative surrounding the operation and the Centre’s stance on internal security.
As the Parliament session unfolds, both the Operation Sindoor developments and the Bihar SIR protests are expected to dominate headlines in the coming days.
