Suryakumar Yadav Joins Exclusive Indian T20 Club with Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma

Suryakumar Yadav has officially joined an exclusive club of Indian cricketers after scoring a rapid 27 runs off just nine balls against the Kolkata Knight Riders in Mumbai Indians’ eight-wicket victory on Monday. With this performance, he became only the fifth Indian to surpass the 8,000-run mark in T20 cricket.

Following this innings, Suryakumar’s total stands at 8,007 runs in 288 innings, boasting a strike rate of 152.28 and an average of 34.21. His impressive T20 record includes six centuries and 54 half-centuries. In T20 internationals, where he also captains Team India, he has accumulated 2,598 runs at an astounding strike rate of 167.07 and an average of 38.20, including four centuries and 21 fifties.

Among Indian players, Suryakumar is now the fifth-highest run-scorer in T20s. The leaderboard is led by Virat Kohli (12,976 runs in 384 innings), followed by Rohit Sharma (11,838 runs in 437 innings), Shikhar Dhawan (9,797 runs in 331 innings), and Suresh Raina (8,654 runs in 319 innings).

On Monday, Suryakumar’s brilliance was on full display as he finished MI’s chase of 117 runs in style. He struck back-to-back fours off the first two balls of the 13th over bowled by Andre Russell and sealed the match with his trademark ‘Supla’ shot for six.

Regarded as one of the best T20 batters in the world, Suryakumar had been struggling with his form since India’s victory at the 2024 T20 World Cup. Before the IPL, he managed only 28 runs in five T20 Innings at a strike rate of 116.66. However, he showed signs of a comeback with a 26-ball 29 in MI’s opening game against CSK, followed by a 48-run innings against the Gujarat Titans. Now, with this milestone, Suryakumar appears to be back at his explosive best.
