Department of Continuing Education , Faculty of Nursing Organized Five Days Faculty Development Programme (FDP) On Innovative Nursing Research Designs: Enabling Quality Care and Education from 11-15th April 2023 under the guidance of Prof (Dr) Pity Koul, Professor and Dean Faculty of Nursing. Mrs. Deepak and Mrs. Bharti Sachdeva Associate Professor, were the organizing Secretaries of the FDP.

The FDP was attended by 51 delegates from Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir , Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Ph.D. Scholars of Faculty of Nursing, SGT University. The FDP was designed to get participants acquainted with innovative methods of research and explore different dimensions and paradigms of research.

Dr. Deepika Khakha, Nursing Advisor, Govt. of India inaugurated the FDP as Chief Guest, Prof. Dr. O. P Kalra, Honourable Vice Chancellor, presided over the Inaugural Function. Welcome address was delivered by Prof (Dr) Pity Koul, Dean Faculty of Nursing. She focused on the need to strengthen nursing research for meeting the changing needs of quality patient care.

Prof. Dr O. P Kalra, Honourable Vice Chancellor delivered the presidential address . He focused on the need for quality research in nursing and highlighted the importance of dissemination of research and hand holding of young researchers. Prof. Vikas Dhawan PVC Academics highlighted the importance of publications and encouragement of nurses to take part in the research. Dr. N C Arora, Medical Superintendent, SGT Hospital talked about clinical research and its benefits for the patient for quality care. In her Inaugural session Dr Deepika Khakha, Nursing Advisor, Govt. of India highlighted on quality of research, conducts and publications which can be delivered to improve patient care.

The day one included sessions on Personal approach to Research by Dr. Subrata Sinha, J C Bose Fellow, Department of Biochemistry AIIMS, New Delhi. Problem Identification and Formulation, Research Objectives and Hypothesis by Dr Akoijam Mamata Devi Professor and HOD, Obstetrics and Gynaecological Nursing, Faculty of Nursing and Proposal Writing and Funding Opportunities by Dr. Meenakshi Munshi. Dean, Research and Development SGT University.

Day 2 programme related to sessions on Qualitative and mixed-method Research Designs by Dr. N Das Professor & Former Director School of Education, IGNOU, New Delhi. Quantitative Research Designs and translational research by Dr Latha Venkatesan Professor cum Principal College of Nursing AIIMS, New Delhi and Sample Selection. by Prof. (Dr.) Waheeda Khan Advisor at SGT University.

Day 3 focused on tools and techniques on data collection by Dr. Ishak Mohammed Assistant Professor College of Nursing Aligarh Muslim University Aligarh. Research analytics and sample size calculation by Dr. Ravi Shankar Assistant Professor Vallabhbhai Patel Chest Institute, University of Delhi and Panel discussion on regulation and guidelines for conducting clinical trials in India by Deans and HODs OF SGT University.

Panel discussion was moderated by Prof. (Dr) Pity Koul. Panelists focussed on various areas of conducting clinical trials in India. The panelists of the session were:

Prof M Ejaz Hussain Dean, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Prof (Dr) Vijay Bhalla Principal, College of Pharmacy, Dr. Pooja Anand Dean, Faculty of Physiotherapy · Prof (Dr) Shourya Tandon Associate Dean and Head, Public Health Dentistry, Faculty of Dental Sciences, Prof (Dr) Sunil Kumar Dular Professor and HOD, Community Health Nursing, Faculty of Nursing and Prof (Dr) Neeta Bhide Professor and HOD, Fundamental of Nursing.

Day 4 includes sessions on use of SPSS in Research by Dr. Akshay Kumar Associate Professor School of Computer Sciences and Information Technology IGNOU. Functioning of Institutional Ethics Boards by Dr. Nimarpreet Kaur Professor and HOD, Department of Physiology Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences SGT University and Systematic Review by Dr. Pooja Bhati Assistant Professor, Faculty of Physiotherapy SGT University, Gurugram.

 

On Day 5th, last day of the FDP, (Dr) Settepalli Jasmin Debora Professor and HOD, Medical-Surgical Nursing took a sessions on Advance Search and Referencing tools followed by Plagiarism and Anti-Plagiarism Publication Ethics by Dr. Kunal Deputy Dean (Research) SGT University, Gurugram and an Overview of IPR and Patent filing Procedure by Mr. Shailendra Singh Examiner of patent and design Ministry of Commerce and Industry, New Delhi.

Valedictory session was graced by Dr Rakesh Kumar Sharma, Pro Chancellor, SGT University. In his valedictory sessions he focussed on the need of innovation in research and entrepreneurship and start up and utilization of the research. Introductory remarks were given by Prof. Dr Pity Kaul Dean Faculty of Nursing followed by report and result of Pre test -Post test by Ms. Deepak Associate Professor, Faculty of Nursing and feedback by participants.
