Delhi Govt Hikes Olympic Gold Award to ₹7 Crore, Promises Govt Jobs for Medallists

In a landmark move to uplift the sports ecosystem in the national capital, the Delhi government has significantly increased cash rewards for medal-winning athletes and introduced structured government job placements under the Mukhyamantri Khel Protsahan Yojana.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced that Olympic gold medallists will now receive ₹7 crore — a 133% hike from the previous ₹3 crore — marking the highest sports award given by any Indian state. Olympic silver and bronze medalists will now receive ₹5 crore and ₹3 crore, respectively.

Delhi is proud to lead the nation in rewarding sports talent. Inspired by PM Modi’s ‘Khelo India’ and ‘Fit India’ movements, we are committed to supporting athletes who bring glory to the nation,” said CM Gupta.

Sports Minister Ashish Sood highlighted that the revised incentives aim to bridge the gap between Delhi and other states in athlete support. The scheme also includes:

  • Asian & Para Asian Games: ₹3 crore for gold, ₹2 crore for silver, ₹1 crore for bronze.

  • Commonwealth & Para Commonwealth Games: ₹2 crore for gold, ₹1.5 crore for silver, ₹1 crore for bronze.

  • National & Para National Games: ₹11 lakh (gold), ₹5 lakh (silver), ₹3 lakh (bronze).

Additionally, elite athletes representing Delhi at international and national levels will receive an annual support of ₹20 lakh, along with medical insurance coverage.

Government Jobs for Medallists
The Delhi government has also structured employment opportunities for athletes:

  • Group A Jobs: Olympic gold/silver medallists & Asian Games gold medallists.

  • Group B Jobs: Olympic bronze medallists, Paralympic medallists, Asian Games silver/bronze medallists, and Commonwealth gold/silver winners.

  • Group C Jobs: Para Asian silver/bronze winners, Commonwealth bronze winners, and Para Commonwealth medallists.

To make this possible, officials will coordinate with the UPSC to facilitate Group A postings.

Support for Young Athletes
In a move to attract talent early, a ₹5 lakh grant will be provided to students from classes 6 to 12 who participate in and perform at national or state-level competitions.

With this initiative, Delhi aims to not only recognize but also empower sports achievers by providing financial security, career opportunities, and institutional support.
