Delhi Metro to Start at 4 AM on Independence Day 2025
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced special operational timings for the 79th Independence Day celebrations. On August 15, 2025, metro services across the national capital will begin at 4:00 AM from all terminal stations, significantly earlier than the regular schedule. This arrangement aims to accommodate special guests, official invitees, and members of the public attending the Independence Day ceremony at the Red Fort.
Between 4:00 AM and 6:00 AM, metro trains will operate at 30-minute intervals before resuming their normal frequency. The initiative is part of DMRC’s coordinated plan with the Ministry of Defence to ensure smooth and timely travel for attendees.
Special QR tickets will be issued to individuals with an official invitation from the Ministry of Defence. These tickets will allow travel to and from the event at no cost to the invitees, with expenses reimbursed to DMRC by the ministry. The closest metro stations to the Independence Day venue are Lal Quila, Jama Masjid, and Delhi Gate, all of which are expected to see higher footfall.
Security at metro stations will be tighter than usual, with the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) conducting comprehensive checks at entry and exit points. Attendees are advised to allow extra travel time to account for security procedures.
The Red Fort, located on the Violet Line of the Delhi Metro network, will remain the focal point of the city’s celebrations. DMRC has urged passengers to plan their journeys accordingly and adhere to the security guidelines in place.
With these changes, Delhi aims to ensure a safe, timely, and organized Independence Day celebration for all.
