PM Modi to Inaugurate UER-II and Dwarka Expressway Delhi Section

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate two significant infrastructure projects in Delhi-NCR on Sunday – the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway and four packages of the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II). The event will take place in Rohini, with the Prime Minister expected to inspect both projects.

The Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway covers 10.1 km, including a 5.1 km tunnel that connects directly to IGI Airport. This tunnel is expected to significantly improve access between Gurugram and the airport, easing travel times and reducing congestion on existing routes. The Haryana section of the expressway was inaugurated in March 2024.

The UER-II, developed in five packages, spans 75.71 km and is designed to function as Delhi’s third ring road. Of this, 54.21 km is in Delhi and 21.50 km is in Haryana. Originally conceptualised by the Delhi Development Authority, the project faced years of delays due to land acquisition challenges. NHAI later took over the project, declaring it a National Highway.

UER-II will link Mahipalpur near IGI Airport to Alipur in North Delhi, connecting with NH-44. Once operational, it is expected to reduce travel time between Gurugram, West and South Delhi, and northern destinations such as Sonipat, Panipat, Punjab, and Jammu & Kashmir. It will also help bypass congestion points like Dhaula Kuan and Delhi’s ring roads.

Officials say both roads will open for public use immediately after the inauguration. These projects are part of a broader strategy to improve connectivity, reduce travel times, and enhance the overall transport infrastructure of Delhi-NCR.

With their completion, commuters can look forward to faster, more efficient journeys across one of India’s busiest urban corridors.
