Delhi Election Results 2025: BJP Surges Ahead in Early Leads, AAP Trails
New Delhi, February 8, 2025: As the counting of votes for the 70 assembly constituencies in Delhi commenced at 8 AM today, early trends are indicating a significant lead for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). This early lead suggests that the BJP has crossed the majority threshold of 36 seats, hinting at a potential return to power in the national capital after nearly three decades of being out of power.
Prominent BJP candidates are performing well in their respective constituencies. Notable figures such as Om Prakash Sharma from Vishwas Nagar, Sanjay Goyal from Shahdara, and Kapil Mishra from Karawal Nagar are currently leading in their races, further solidifying the party’s position. On the other hand, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), led by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, is also making its presence felt. Gopal Rai, the Environment Minister in the Delhi government, is leading from the Babarpur constituency with a margin of 5,602 votes, based on early trends reported by the Election Commission of India.
The AAP is striving for a fourth consecutive term, a feat that would highlight its sustained popularity in the capital. However, according to these early developments, the BJP appears to be leading in more than 45 seats, while the AAP is ahead in a significantly smaller number of constituencies.
The voter turnout for the Delhi Assembly Elections, which concluded on February 5, 2025, was recorded at 60.39%. Among the various constituencies, Mustafabad witnessed the highest turnout at an impressive 69%, whereas Karol Bagh reported the lowest participation rate at 47.40%. This variation in voter turnout may reflect differing levels of engagement and interest among the electorate in various areas.
Most exit polls before the actual voting had suggested that the BJP would have an advantage over the ruling AAP, with predictions indicating that the Congress party would not make any significant gains in this electoral contest. As the counting progresses and more results come in, the outcome will reveal whether the BJP manages to secure a decisive victory or if the AAP retains its power in Delhi. The coming hours will be crucial in determining the future political landscape of the national capital.
