AAP, BJP and Congress Announce Full Candidate Lists for Delhi MCD Bypolls
All major political parties in Delhi—Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Congress—have announced their candidates for the upcoming Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) by-elections scheduled for November 30. These bypolls will be held across 12 wards and are expected to be politically significant for all three parties.
Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva stated that the party finalized its candidates after extensive discussions, focusing on merit and winnability. Eight of the BJP’s candidates are women, including Jaipal Singh Saral (Mundka), Anita Jain (Shalimar Bagh-B), Veena Asija (Ashok Vihar), Suman Kumar Gupta (Chandni Chowk), Sunil Sharma (Chandni Mahal), Manisha Rajpal Sehrawat (Dwarka-B), and Rekha Rani (Dichau Kalan). Other candidates include Chandrakanta Shivani, Rohini Raj, Subhrajeet Gautam, Anjum Mandal, and Sarla Chaudhary. Sachdeva expressed confidence in a “landslide victory,” citing the party’s work in the Central, State, and MCD governments.

Congress has also released its candidate list, which includes five women. The Congress nominees are Mukesh (Mundka), Sarita Kumari (Shalimar Bagh-B), Vishakha Rani (Ashok Vihar), Ajay Kumar Jain (Chandni Chowk), Kunwar Shehzad Ahmed (Chandni Mahal), Sumita Malik (Dwarka-B), Rashmi Sharma (Dichau Kalan), Manoj Tanwar (Naraina), Suresh Choudhary (Sangam Vihar-A), Vikram (Dakshin Puri), Shikha Kapur (Greater Kailash), and Vinay Shankar Dubey (Vinod Nagar). Delhi Congress President Devender Yadav stated that the public is looking to Congress with confidence due to the “misgovernance and unfulfilled promises” made by AAP and BJP.

Earlier in the day, AAP announced its candidates. Following setbacks in recent Assembly elections, these bypolls are particularly important for the party. AAP’s candidates include Ram Swaroop Kanojia (Dakshin Puri), Anuj Sharma (Sangam Vihar-A), Eeshna Gupta (Greater Kailash), Geeta Rawat (Vinod Nagar), Babita Ahlawat (Shalimar Bagh-B), Seema Vikas Goel (Ashok Vihar), Harsh Sharma (Chandni Chowk), Muddasir Usman Qureshi (Chandni Mahal), Rajbala Sehrawat (Dwarka-B), Anil Lakra (Mundka), Rajan Arora (Naraina), and Keshav Chauhan (Dichau Kalan).

The last date for filing nominations is November 10, followed by scrutiny on November 12. Candidates can withdraw their nominations until November 15. Previously, the BJP held nine of the twelve wards, while AAP held the remaining three. The bypoll was triggered by the resignation of Rekha Gupta, who represented the Shalimar Bagh-B ward after winning the Assembly elections and becoming Delhi’s chief minister.
