Industrial Advisory Board for mass comm faculty meeting held in SGT University

The Faculty of Mass Communication and Media Technology of the SGT University organized the first meeting of the Industrial Advisory Board (IAB) on Wednesday.
The main objective for organizing this online meeting was to know the new trends that are changing in the industry and how to make students ready for the future.
In this online meeting, people from different fields Vandana Batra, (Head, Jansatta Chandigarh) Vibha Sharma ( Special Correspondent, The Tribune, Delhi) Satish Mehra(Deputy Director, Public Relations Department, Haryana Raj Bhawan), Ranjan Basu (Senior Photographer) Nilofer Shama (Producer and Director) Yogesh Jangda ( Live India ) participated the meeting
Prof (Dr) Navdeep Singh Tung, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University also participated in the meeting through online mode.
During discussions, Vandana Batra emphasized the importance of going into the details of the topics. She said that she had been noticing that young journalists who join this profession hardly know the details of the topics they are asked to report for.
“Unless they know the background of the topic, they cannot do justice to their jobs,” she added.
Satish Mehra said that public relations is a subject every student of journalism must learn in whatever field they want to go.
Photographer Ranjan Basu said that though photojournalists are not much in demand now in the media industry, but those aspiring to become one must have complete knowledge of the cameras.
Vibha Sharma said that students should have the ability to work faster, as the demands of the industry have changed with the coming up of internet editions.
Nilofer Shama said practical training was important for students to be industry-ready in the future.
Krishna Kant stressed the need for writing skills.
Prof Sushil Manav, Dean, Faculty of Mass Communication and Media Technology set the ball in motion with the introduction of the faculty and the courses being run under it.
Prof Manav informed the IAB members that from the next year, the university plans to start Bachelor of Film and Television Production (BFTP) besides starting five different specialties in Digital Journalism, Mobile Journalism, Radio Broadcast and Podcast, TV Production and Advertisement & Public Relations under the BA Journalism and Mass Communication Course.
Prof Manav also informed the members that the Faculty of Mass Communication and Media Technology has started a YouTube channel, a Web-portal, and a Podcast channel, all under the name of SGT Times.
He said the motive behind launching these channels was to provide the students a platform to sharpen their skills so that they are industry-ready when they get their degrees.
Kranti Anand, an Assistant Professor, mentioned in details the subjects the Faculty was teaching at present.
Dr Tejee Isha, an Assistant Professor, said students were also being given an option to pursue Hindi journalism since some of them come from rural backgrounds.
Shashi Kumar Pandey, an Associate Professor, thanked the participants.
