Kailash Mansarovar Yatra Resumes After 5 Years from Nathula, Sikkim

The sacred Kailash Mansarovar Yatra has officially resumed after a five-year hiatus, with a flag-off ceremony held today at Nathula Pass, Sikkim, around 8:45 AM. The yatra was inaugurated by Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur, who also extended his heartfelt wishes and interacted with the pilgrims.

The first group of 36 pilgrims began the pious journey amid spiritual fervour and administrative support. C.S. Rao, Additional Chief Secretary of the Tourism and Civil Aviation Department, stated that multiple government departments are working together to ensure the yatra’s smooth execution.

Uttar Pradesh Launches Financial Assistance Scheme for Pilgrims

In a major step to encourage spiritual travel, the Uttar Pradesh Government, under the guidance of Tourism Minister Shri Jaiveer Singh, has launched a subsidy scheme offering ₹1 lakh to each eligible devotee from the state who completes the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra.

Key Details of the Scheme:

  • Eligibility: Only permanent residents of Uttar Pradesh who complete the yatra through Central Government-authorized routes or registered private agencies are eligible.

  • Financial Assistance: ₹1,00,000 will be transferred directly to the pilgrim’s bank account upon verification of documents and completion of the yatra.

  • Application Timeline: Devotees must apply within 90 days of completing the pilgrimage.

Yatra Overview – 2025

The 2025 Kailash Mansarovar Yatra will officially commence on June 30, 2025.

  • Total Selected Pilgrims: 750

  • Nathula Route (Sikkim): 500 pilgrims

  • Lipulekh Pass Route (Uttarakhand): 250 pilgrims

The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is one of the most spiritually revered pilgrimages for devotees of Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Bon traditions. It involves a journey through challenging Himalayan terrain to Mount Kailash and Mansarovar Lake in Tibet—sites believed to be the abode of Lord Shiva and centers of divine energy.
