Delhi Launches Arpan Kendras for Old Clothes

Delhi is taking a step towards managing waste in a better way with the launch of Arpan Kendras. These are places where people can donate clothes they do not use anymore. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta opened one of these centres at Punjabi Bagh West Metro Station on Monday. This is part of a plan to reduce waste from clothes and give them a new use.

The Delhi government is working with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and the Delhi Metro Ladies Welfare Organisation to make this happen. The Chief Minister’s Office says they plan to open Arpan Kendras at 10 metro stations in Delhi. For now, they have opened centres at five places. Shalimar Bagh, Punjabi Bagh West, Mayur Vihar Phase-1, Shahdara and Rohini West.

The idea is simple: people can give away clothes they do not want. These can be used again, recycled or made into something new. This plan also helps women’s self-help groups by giving them work that is good for the environment and the community.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that making Delhi a better city is not about building roads, bridges and metro lines. She said it is also about people being responsible, using resources carefully and working together to protect the environment.

This is a time for this initiative because waste from old clothes is becoming a big problem. The Arpan Kendras encourage people to donate clothes instead of throwing them away, which helps reduce waste and makes sure materials are used for longer.

For people living in Delhi, these new centres make it easy to help during their metro trips. They can donate a shirt, dress, or any other unused clothes, which can get a new life instead of becoming waste.
