PM Modi Holds High-Level Talks with Angola President in Delhi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is holding important delegation-level talks with the President of Angola, João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, in New Delhi today. This visit marks a big moment as both nations celebrate 40 years of diplomatic ties.

President Lourenço arrived in India yesterday on a three-day State Visit. He received a warm welcome at the airport from Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh. He is accompanied by a high-level team, including Ministers, top officials, business leaders, and media representatives.

This morning, President Lourenço was given a ceremonial welcome at the Rashtrapati Bhawan forecourt. He will also meet with President Droupadi Murmu, who will host a banquet in his honour later in the day.

During the visit, several agreements are expected to be signed to boost cooperation in various areas like trade, health, energy, and defence. External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar and Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda are also scheduled to meet the Angolan President.

This is the first visit by a President of Angola to India in 38 years, making it a historic moment. The visit comes as both countries are celebrating four decades of strong friendship and partnership.

India and Angola have built a close relationship over the years, especially in the energy sector. Angola is one of the key energy partners of India in Africa. The two countries are now working on expanding their ties in defence, capacity-building, and development cooperation.

In 2023–24, bilateral trade between India and Angola crossed four billion dollars, showing strong economic growth between the two nations.

On the final day of his visit, President Lourenço will attend a business event in New Delhi aimed at increasing investment and trade opportunities. Both sides are expected to explore new areas of collaboration and strengthen commercial ties.

India and Angola also support each other at global platforms such as the United Nations. The visit is likely to open new doors for stronger and deeper engagement between the two countries.
