President Murmu Presents 72nd National Film Awards in Gujarat
President Droupadi Murmu presented the 72nd National Film Awards for the year 2024 at a ceremony held in Ekta Nagar, Gujarat, on September 22. The prestigious awards recognised outstanding contributions to Indian cinema across feature films, performances and various technical categories.
The ceremony saw several prominent names from the Indian film industry receive national recognition. Yami Gautam was honoured with the Best Actress in a Leading Role award for her performance in Article 370. The film also received the Best Feature Film award.
The Best Actor in a Leading Role award was jointly presented to Mammootty for his performance in Bramayugam and Kartik Aaryan for Chandu Champion. The recognition marked another significant achievement for both actors.
The awards also recognised achievements across different areas of filmmaking. Randeep Hooda received the Best Debut Director award for Swatantrya Veer Savarkar, while several other films received honours in categories covering direction, screenplay, music, choreography, cinematography and other technical contributions.
The 72nd National Film Awards ceremony was particularly notable for being held in Gujarat’s Ekta Nagar, near the Statue of Unity, rather than New Delhi. It brought together leading personalities from across the Indian film industry to celebrate the achievements of the 2024 film year.
The ceremony highlighted the diversity of Indian cinema and acknowledged creative contributions across multiple languages and filmmaking traditions.
