SGT University celebrates Azadi ka Amrit Mohotsav by organising session on Women Empowerment

To mark “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”, the SGT University organized a session on ‘Women Empowerment’ here in the university campus on Tuesday. The chief guest was Aman Preet, Indian Revenue Services (IRS), Joint Director, and Income Tax Department.

Madhupreet Kaur Chawla, Chairperson of the University, Manmohan Singh Chawla, Managing Trustee of Dashmesh Charitable Educational Trust, Dr OP Kalra, Vice Chancellor, Dr Navdeep Singh Tung, Pro VC and several faculty members and students were present in the session.

The IRS officer said in her address that during the Covid lockdown she got a call from a housemaid that she needs ration and sanitary napkins. She said she told her to purchase the commodities from the village and she will transfer the amount to her account.

However, the woman replied that napkins were not available in the village. “That was a matter of concern; I finally decided to help women of the rural area who are facing such a problem. I also took help from the most powerful tool of the modern era which is social media,” she said.

“My campaign got a very good response and even the youths also joined their hands and started helping those who were facing scarcity of basic but important needs. I took to social media to reach out to people in need,” Aman Preet added.

The Vice-Chancellor of the SGT University Professor Dr OP Kalra welcomed the chief guest. A Natak based on the theme of ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ was also shown.

Monika, a faculty member of the university, said that they not only educate students, but also helps the society and make women independent.

She further said that various departments of the university, from time to time, organize awareness programs in adjoining villages. Through such programs of Nursing, Nutrition, Fashion Designing the only motive is to spread awareness and education among the villagers.

Savita, a villager from Khera Kharampur, she has been making good profit after she learned about Chips and Jam from the students of the university. She shared that after proper learning, she participated in a fair which was organized by the university, where she sold her product and made good revenue out of it.
