SGT University to set up ‘Centre of Excellence’

The Faculty of Hotel and Tourism Management initiated efforts to set up a Centre of Excellence at SGT University. Chef Vivek Saggar, Head Skill Competitions and Industry Connect at Tourism and Hospitality Skill Council (THSC), and Ms. Sunita Badhwar, Head Standards, THSC visited SGT University recently for this purpose.  Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academics) Prof Vikas Dhawan and Dean FHTM Dr. Susanta Ranjan Chaini had a discussion with them about establishing the Centre for Excellence at SGT University FHTM.

“The Faculty of Hotel and Tourism Management had a fruitful meeting and we are hopeful of setting up ‘Centre of Excellence’ in alliance with the THSC,” said Dr. Chaini.

The Tourism and Skill India Council is a Non-Profit Organization, registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860, promoted by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) with the inclusive representation of the Government, Industry, Industry Associations and Training Institutes across India.

The THSC is formed by the Industry and for the Industry to tackle the skilling of large manpower to fulfill the industry requirements, playing a crucial role in bridging this ever-growing gap. THSC has a mandate to create a robust and sustainable eco-system for skill development in the industry, catering to all the sub-sectors of the industry, namely, Hotels, Tour Operators, Food Service Restaurants, Facilities Management and Cruise Liners.

The aim of the Faculty of Hotel and Tourism Management, SGT University to collaborate with THSC is to create a common platform for training and preparing students of various colleges for Skill India competitions at regional and National Levels. For this FHTM is planning to make a ‘Center of Excellence’ in the Departments of Front office and Housekeeping as recommended by THSC.
