SGT University welcomes FM’s “Tele-Mental Health Counselling” announcement, already launched by clinical psychology dept here

As the global burden of psychological illnesses is increasing day by day and because of the current pandemic and scarcity of mental health services tele counselling services could be a stepping stone for mental health services. The Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman

in her union budget speech on 1st February 2022 has rightly emphasized that “The pandemic has accentuated mental health problems in people of all ages. To better the access to quality mental health counselling and care services, a National Tele Mental Health Programme will be launched to provide 24X7 free counselling and care to people”. She announced in the Parliament that a network of 23 tele-mental health centres of excellence, with the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) as its nodal centre and International Institute of Information Technology-Bangalore (IIITB) will provide technical support as a part of this initiative.

The Department of Clinical Psychology, Faculty of Behavioural Sciences, Shree Guru Gobind Singh Tricentenary (SGT) University welcomes this initiative of GOI. We at SGT university has already foreseen the need and importance of providing quality mental health services to children, adolescents, youth and adults, hence during the pandemic a “TELE Mental Health Counselling” service was started 24X7 (on Mobile No.: 9319080372) by trained professional counsellors. In addition to this a range of mental health facilities including out-patient and in-patient services, and student counselling also address the critical mental health issues of the people, and mental-wellbeing and quality of life of the university students. Psychiatric services and pharmacotherapy are also available to provide holistic services to the patients as well as to the caregivers of the patients.
