Adani Group’s Smita Kumari Sets Second Guinness World Record in Yoga
In an impressive display of strength, flexibility, and determination, Smita Kumari, a yoga instructor with the Adani Group, has made history once again by securing her second Guinness World Record. On February 17, 2025, Smita successfully held the challenging “Bhunamanasana” (Greeting the Earth pose) for an astonishing 2 hours, 33 minutes, and 37 seconds.
This incredible achievement was accomplished under the expert guidance of senior yoga instructor Sagar Soni and with the unwavering support of the Adani Group’s Corporate Healthcare team. It highlights not only Smita Kumari’s physical endurance but also her mental focus and deep dedication to the ancient practice of yoga.
Bhunamanasana is a demanding posture in which the practitioner performs a deep forward bend, spreading the feet wide apart while placing the hands firmly on the ground, creating an inverted “V” shape with the body. Holding this stance for an extended period requires exceptional core strength, leg power, flexibility, and a calm, focused mind. Smita’s record-breaking performance stands as a testament to her mastery of these skills.
This is not the first time Smita Kumari has gained recognition in the yoga world. In 2023, she set her first Guinness World Record by holding the Samakonasana (center split) pose for an impressive 3 hours, 10 minutes, and 12 seconds in Ahmedabad on December 17, 2022. That achievement earned her widespread recognition, including a Guinness World Records certificate presented by Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani.
Smita’s journey in the world of yoga began with her education at Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya, where she earned a Master’s degree in Yoga with an A+ grade in 2017. She also holds a Diploma in Yoga Science from the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY), graduating with top honors.
Over the last five years, she has been an integral part of the Adani Group, leading yoga and Hatha Yoga sessions while promoting wellness and healthy living. Before joining the Adani Group, she served as a sports teacher in Delhi and worked as a personal trainer, helping people integrate yoga into their daily routines.
Smita Kumari’s continued success is not only a personal achievement but also an inspiration for yoga enthusiasts across the country.
