The Department of Continuing Nursing Education, Faculty of Nursing, SGT University, in an effort to
have insight into different pedagogical techniques adopted at foreign universities, organised an
online talk on Pedagogy in Nursing Education: An Experience of Sweden by Dr Sonia Sunny,
University Adjunct at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden at 12:00 pm on 22 nd of April. The session
began with Ms Bharti Sachdeva, the Convener of the event, welcoming the participants and
introducing the guest speaker to them. Prof (Dr) Pity Koul, Dean, Faculty of Nursing, deliberated the
current pedagogical practices at the Faculty of Nursing, SGT University. She told Dr Sunny about our
state-of-the-art National Reference Simulation Centre and the circle of learning catering to the
clinical requisites of a nursing student right from a sound knowledge base to skill training and critical
decision-making by case studies and simulation as a teaching tool. Dr Sunny shared her experiences
and practices about various Evidence-based pedagogies, such as Case-based learning, Problem-
based learning, Team learning and Peer learning, as a formal and structured approach of teaching.
She laid special emphasis on learning the art of giving constructive feedback. Apart from these, she
also discussed other teaching methodologies, for example, case studies, role plays, and simulation.
She also talked of group division and student-facilitator ratio, which is in practice at their place. She
was kind enough to share their schedule of Structured Learning Activities at their Clinical Training
Centre. The discussion and sharing of experiences made the session pretty interactive.
